This paper describes a novel low-cost tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for bicycles. The is based on battery-less near field communication (NFC) tag that integrates sensor, which placed between the and inner tube. uses no battery since energy obtained from magnetic induced by reader in order to establish communication. can be read any NFC-enabled such as smartphone. sensor force-sensing resistor (FSR) controls oscillation frequency of 555 timer-based oscillator. computed microcontroller, result written via I 2 C bus memory near-field integrated circuit (IC), commercial smartphone or NFC reader. A prototype designed an FR4 substrate 12 ×16 mm antenna connected IC (NT3H211 NXP). proposed has 3D-printed enclosure protect components mounted surface PCB punctures. characterizing range presented. requires minimum 2.9 RMS /m operate up distance 8 tire, providing enough power supply whole circuitry receive information stored at IC. been tested with 59 mm-width mountain bike tire. characterized using simple polynomial fitting obtain measurement frequency. An accuracy 0.1 accomplished 0.5 2.2 bar. To test system, several inflation cycles have performed showed presents good repeatability.
